Usha Raj holds a masters degree from the University of Maryland. She is the recipient of the 2008 Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant Award and the 2009 Kathryn Wallace Foundation Community Award.


As a multi-disciplinary Teaching Artist, she has been sharing the faith, culture and traditions of India for over two decades. A storyteller, puppet maker, and visual artist, Usha has worked with the Durham Art Council and the United Arts, showcasing India’s rich traditions in schools, museums, and community events throughout North Carolina. Usha has shared this passion through creativity and the arts both nationally and internationally.


She served as the first Hindu Chaplin at Duke University from 2011 to 2012. She has been engaged in several inter-faith dialogues and presentations throughout the state to this day.
