Usha is the Producer / Writer for a new documentary and education film project by Video Dialog Inc. titled “Remarkable Journey” – Founding the Asian Indian community in North Carolina.

This is a joint collaboration with award winning documentarians, Steve Channing and Lue Simopoulos.
Through lively first-person stories, Remarkable Journey explores the ‘pioneer’ generation of Indian immigrants to North Carolina, as the world’s oldest and largest democracies met here in the midst of the civil rights movement and beyond.

Two decades of work as a Teaching Artist and the response of her audience culminated in this new amazing documentary venture. “When I shared my stories and traditions of India I would see the enthusiasm in the eyes of the children and their joy for learning through the arts. I wished I could clone myself and reach the length and breadth of North Carolina. Today thanks to my collaborators, through the medium of film, this dream has finally been realized”.

Frank Stasio, from State of Things WUNC Radio, speaks with director and producer Steven Channing, producer and principal advisor Usha Raj, and co-executive producer Vandana Dake about their new film “Remarkable Journey: Founding the Asian Indian Community in North Carolina”.
